Car Sharing

moObie is a peer-to-peer (P2P) car-sharing platform that connects car owners with people who temporarily need a car. The company pioneered this model in Brazil, betting on a solution for more sustainable cities in a previously untapped market.

Company:

mOobie

Role:

Lead Designer

Year:

2017

Objective

The challenge was to design and build the entire platform from scratch, from brand conception to functional applications. The product needed to serve two very distinct user profiles (renters and owners) in a single ecosystem (iOS, Android, and Web). The goal was to create a polished and smooth user experience for an inherently complex product structure.

Process

The project was executed from its earliest stage, applying a lean design approach in close collaboration with the development team.

  • Discovery and Research:
The process began with benchmarking global car-sharing solutions and researching consumer engagement on the topic in Brazil.

  • Persona Definition:
Based on the research outcomes, "renter" and "owner" personas were defined.

  • Branding and Concept:
The brand, colors, style guides, and first concept for the apps (iOS, Android, and Web) were designed.

  • Product Design:
The user flows for both sides of the platform were meticulously designed.

  • Marketing Production:
The work extended to co-directing moObie's first promotional video, including creating the screenplay and storyboard, casting, and participating in filming and editing.

Solution

A complete and functional P2P car-sharing platform was delivered:

  • Renter Flow:
The app allows the user to find a nearby car, request to rent it, pay through the platform, and manage the entire rental process digitally.

  • Owner Flow:
The owner has full control of the process, able to receive and analyze rental requests, coordinate key handoff, and validate the check-in and check-out directly through the app.

  • Web Platform:
In addition to mobile apps, a web app was designed to offer access and management via desktops or tablets.

  • Brand Materials:
The visual identity was applied to branding materials and a promotional video to introduce moObie to the public.

Key takeaways

The lean design approach and close collaboration with engineering enabled the launch of a polished user interface for a complex product.

moObie successfully launched as the first P2P car-sharing platform in Brazil, with functional apps and a cohesive brand identity, ready to tap into a new market.
